We are hiring at UM: Data journalism and visualization

We have a new job opening at the University of Miami's School of Communication. Notice that we mention "data journalism" and "visualization" in the description, so if you are a great journalist-developer, a data journalist, or a computer-assisted reporter with a terminal degree, and you are interested in helping us improve our programs (and enjoying the great weather, of course), apply as soon as you can:

University of Miami School of Communication
Department of Journalism and Media Management
Assistant Professor, Journalism and New Media

The Department of Journalism and Media Management at the University of Miami is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of new media. This position is to begin in Fall 2014. Applicants must have a Ph.D., or provide evidence they will have completed all requirements for the degree by August 2014.

An active research agenda, ideally combining journalism with emerging social, mobile, and digital media and/or their audiences, is required. The Department is open to a variety of methodological approaches.

Applicants must be able to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following subject areas: data journalism and visualization, social and mobile media, web design and production, or cross-platform content creation. The successful candidate may also teach communication theory, research methods, or subjects related to their area of expertise in the School’s doctoral program and will be expected to mentor graduate students and serve on dissertation and thesis committees.

The University of Miami is a vibrant, multicultural campus located in an international city with abundant opportunities to research the dynamics of journalism in a global information society.  The successful candidate will join a faculty that enthusiastically seeks to be central to that conversation.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.  To apply, send a cover letter outlining your research agenda and teaching interests, curriculum vita, and at least three references to:
